As a HUGE Slap Shot movie fan, I rented Slap Shot 3, the Junior
League the day it came out. I rented it because I love the original movie and enjoy watching other movies
-- the Hanson Brothers have been part of. The past two movies (SS 2 and SS 3) have been special to me because I
have been fortunate to get to know the Hanson Brothers at our past charity events --which adds to the viewing enjoyment. Hanging
around the guys makes ALL the movies even more special because Jeff, Steve and Dave have
discussed making the movies. I remember driving the Hanson Brothers to our 2008 event when Steve's
cell phone rang and it was Universal Studios -- telling them when to come to Canada and what to bring -- for the early
filming stages of Slap Shot 3. Steve was very excited and so were Jeff and Dave. It was pretty cool to share this moment.
Regardless of what others say about Slap Shot 3, the Junior League,
I enjoyed it.
Knowing the Hanson Brothers for four years, I (and a lot of our guys) have witnessed
their funny side on-and-off the ice, in-and-out of character. I think it's great that after 32 years, the trio can
still make movies and be a major fan draw everywhere they go. They have created a huge cult following which you don't
see in sports that much, especially at a mall autograph signing or some goofy card show.
Slap Shot
3, the Junior League is a unique movie, Canadian humor, and a bit different than US humor but
with funny parts and lines from the original I don't think it was intended to rival the original Slap Shot. (stop
emailing me and comparing it to the original, SS 1 won't be beat, SS 2 and SS 3 were not mean't to rival
the original) If you watch Slap Shot 3, the Junior League just enjoy the story and keep an
open mind. I have been reading different reviews and would like to add that the "love plot" of the movie draws from
the 1986 movie Youngblood. In Slap Shot 3, Greyston Holt is the quiet hockey stud (like Rob Lowe
in Youngblood) and Emma Lahana is the Cynthia Gibb (from Youngblood) ---- the somewhat hot rink chick. I think it's an
identical movie reference and actually added to the movie. Having the Hanson Brother's fictional sons in the movie
was funny and the three child actors seemed to be a perfect fit. I liked the plot, the hockey and the comments
and lines from the previous movies.
My suggestion for Slap Shot 3, the Junior League
is to just go rent or buy it, watch it, enjoy it ---and leave it at that. If you know the Hanson Brothers like I do ---
it's even funnier. If you have not met the Hanson Brothers, keep an eye on our site, maybe you will meet them on May 2,
2009 when they come to the Klick Lewis Ice Arena in Annvile.
After you meet them, watch all three Slap
Shot movies AGAIN, and you will laugh even more, because now, you understand!
Good job
Steve, Jeff and Dave!
